European Sessions

Once every season we will present the a large auditions project in Europe which specifically address the top-level opera houses from both Europe and North America. Starting in 2005, this was the Berlin International Opera Auditions which was hosted by the Komische Oper Berlin. From 2009 we will host the Bologna International Opera Auditions at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in Bologna, Italy. In addition, we will organize auditions specifically for several houses and festivals that will be focused on the specific needs of those companies.

The singers presented over the days in Bologna are mainly selected through preliminary auditions held in various major international cities with the particular focus on discovering highly promising, unknown singers from more remote and relatively ‘underdeveloped’ opera markets. Many of these artists would not normally be able to go on an audition tour to introduce themselves to each house (from both sides of the Atlantic) individually. Instead, NYIOP International finds these singers for the opera houses and brings the artists and the theaters together in Bologna.
